Social Media
Social Media may be the thing thing the most used in the whole wide world, but it has some good and bad things to it. The one big thing about socail media is that you can connect with your loved ones even if y'all are a million miles away. One major con is that, social media has such a bad influence on people. Whether they wre grown ups, pre-teens, or teenagers. Just seeing a picture on the internet, can literally cause many young teengers to go out, and only eat one meal a day, because they feel like they are not 'beautiful" "pretty" enough. This whole issue has made people feel so terrible about themselves just from seeing a simple ad, or a simple picture. Social media having such a big impact in some people's lives can be heartbreaking. Some of us might not even know social media is doing all this to us. Some times, we even look at a simple picture, literally know it hurts, yet we still look at it. It's hard, I totlly get uit. I've been there for a while, and I know it's a terrible feeling.
According to mirrormirror.org, social media is mostly used for advertising numerous products, and we obviously know that, but what mostly hurts our us are the clothes advertisment. Let's take a crop top as an example. When social media is doing ad advertisement about a crop top, and show a very skinny model, with a flat stoamch wearing it, how would it make you feel ? Social media has been using skinny girls for modeling, which question a lot of poeple, surely they are over-sized models, and I love that, but why don't you make someone slightly thicker wear the crop top ? That's not only for adult clothing, but also teenagers. Social media makes us think that we aren"t as beautiful, just becasue our body isn't thick or thin enough. Not only that, but it also makes us feel like our skin is, isn't clear enough, or our nose is too big, all this is heartbreaking.
According to nationaleatingdisorders.org, a girl named Mary says, "When looking at images of girls in a magazine almost all us know that they are altered electronically to appear perfect. When it comes to social media such as Facebook, most believe that they are looking at raw pictures, or ‘real girls.’ Whether this is true or not, they are ultimately used as a standard of comparison". She is absolutely right, but many of us may know that the pictures have been ultered to make the model look more interesting or attractive, but real thing behidn it, not all models/celebreties/public figures, photohop their pictures to look perfect, and that's the hard thing about socail media. We can tell ourselves that "Oh, it's just fake', but then you see a video in where the person has the sam ebody as the picture, and be like, "Oh...". I am not trying to say that keep looking at whats hurting you, I am just trying to say that, social media kinda has a bad influence on us. Whether it's on how we're dressed to how to be skinny, it's just too much for our brains.
If only social media didn't impose all this on us. If only we could minimize the amount of pictures and ads that break our hearts everyday. UGH...if only.
